Where Do We Go Next?
On August 12th the United Non-Partisan Coalition hosted an informational meeting at Bethany Community Church. At that meeting, we made the following key points:
• We need to make changes locally before trying to extend our reach.
• We need to recognize forms of biased rhetoric that are increasing the political divide.
• We need to focus on local issues, starting where there is broad agreement.
• We need to vote, in the primary, for candidates that provide ethical service to constituents.
• We need to base our vote on information, not on negative campaign rhetoric.
• We need to hold elected officials accountable for service to constituents.
Recent sad events at home and abroad have made our task of uniting around common goals both more difficult and more important. It would be wonderful if we, as a new organization, could stop hate speech and bring people together. We can work on our desired goal to spread a more positive, bi-partisan message to our fellow citizens across the country. For now, we need to show that we can improve bi-partisan conversations and actions within our own community.
So, where do we go from here? We have a presentation that covers the key points listed above. Where can we give this presentation? Do you have a social group, church group, senior center group, community group, or political group that would be open to hearing a 1 hour presentation? We would be very happy to take our show on the road.
There is no cost to you for this presentation. We are an all-volunteer group. We’d love to hear some of your ideas. Please contact us at nonpartisangroup2017@gmail.com with suggestions or invitations.
